چکیده

The mapping of the potentially high dynamic range of the real world luminance to the low dynamic range of photographic devices is one of the classic photographic tasks. Therefore, the colour rendering or colour reproduction method is proposed and described in many literatures over the past five decades. However, there are well-known problems associated with these methods. This paper presents a colour compression method, which is a combination of tone mapping and chromatic adaptation. The tone mapping resultant image is obtained by using chromatic and achromatic colours. The resulting image, thereafter, is processed through the cone response function, and emphasis is laid on human visual perception (HVP). The experiment results show that the proposed method yields better performance of the colour compression over the conventional method in subjective quality and colour reproduction. Key-Words: HDR image, color compression, XYZ tristimulus, tone mapping method, cone response function, HVP

A GPU-friendly method for high dynamic range texture compression using inverse tone mapping

In recent years, High Dynamic Range Textures (HDRTs) have been frequently used in real-time applications and video-games to enhance realism. Unfortunately, HDRTs consume a considerable amount of memory, and efficient compression methods are not straightforward to implement on modern GPUs. We propose a framework for efficient HDRT compression using tone mapping and its dual, inverse tone mapping...

A Hybrid Tone Mapping for High Dynamic Range Images

In this study, low dynamic range images were produced from high dynamic range images using hybrid tone mapping. Firstly, high dynamic range images were constructed from the series of images by varying exposure through an image fusion method. Then the high dynamic range images were mapped into 8 bit images using hybrid tone mapping. Our approach is based on combination of luminance map and bilat...

A tone mapping operator based on neural and psychophysical models of visual perception

High dynamic range imaging techniques involve capturing and storing real world radiance values that span many orders of magnitude. However, common display devices can usually reproduce intensity ranges only up to two to three orders of magnitude. Therefore, in order to display a high dynamic range image on a low dynamic range screen, the dynamic range of the image needs to be compressed without...

Modeling a Generic Tone-mapping Operator

Although several new tone-mapping operators are proposed each year, there is no reliable method to validate their performance or to tell how different they are from one another. In order to analyze and understand the behavior of tone-mapping operators, we model their mechanisms by fitting a generic operator to an HDR image and its tone-mapped LDR rendering. We demonstrate that the majority of b...
